Nowadays, the Solar radiation is getting increased day by day due to the Ozone layer depletion for which the human beings are truly responsible. As there is increase in the use of Chlorofluorocarbons' (CFCs) which gets released by the spraying aerosols, air-conditioners, refrigerators, etc. Although the scientists are trying for some other alternatives like Hydrofluorocarbons' (HFCs), Hydrochlorofluorocarbons' (HCFCs). But, still the Ozone layer is depleting every year which got much improvement in 2019 i.e., COVID year.
What are the common eye issues we might face due to hot weather / hot air?
The commonest of all is redness, dryness, irritation, itchiness or watery eyes.
The redness in eyes can occur due to the increase in blood flow. Low humidity, high temperature and dry wind are responsible for worsening these symptoms. There could be sensations of any foreign body present or burning sensation of eyes. Due to the hot weather, wind and the particles suspended in it; which are lighter and with almost no moisture content can irritate your eyes. Due to the dryness in air your eyes can start watering to protect your eyes. Always exposing your eyes in the bright sunlight can cause episodes of discomfort. These environmental conditions can also increase the blurry vision. You can get a headache! Due to the long hour of exposure in the bright sunlight. You can also get fatigue of your eye ad eye muscles especially if you are more exposed to sunlight and screens.
What are the tips for eye care and health?
Many of the eye specialists emphasize on protecting the eyes during summers. The use of sunglasses (with UV protection) is not for styling purpose but, also for protecting the eyes from direct sun exposures. These sunglasses may sure to protect your eyes from harmful UV radiations.
The use of hats, caps, can also reduce the exposure and can provide extra protection from Sunlight. Acharya Charaka has also told to use umbrella which can help you to cover yourself from heat and this works by protecting against sun, windy climate, dust, etc.
Thoroughly wash your eyes using water kept at normal temperatures. Avoid hot water as it can harm your eyesight even you should avoid very cold water.
You can prepare your eye washes at home by soaking clean rose petals in water and using that water to clean your eyes. You can apply Nabhi sutra Shata Dhauta Ghrita skin repair emollient on the outer side of your eyelids but, try to avoid it on the inside. This will add some cooling effect to your eyes. What else you can do to beat the heat!
Try to consume food which are moist and fresh like bottle gourd, cucumber, water melon, mangoes, etc. you can easily consume the refreshing drinks like nimbu sharbat, rose sharbat, khas sharbat, aam panna, jaljeera, fruits juices, coconut water.
Try to avoid dry and oily foods with more amount of salts and spices. Try to reduce the consumption of chilies, spicy food, heavy gravy preparations. Avoid maida containing food items like samosa, vadapav or any bakery items, etc.
